VisPER (Visual PERMAS) is a dedicated GUI to improve pre- and post-processing for PERMAS.

New Features in VisPER Version 18

Postprocessing
  • The postprocessing-performance has been significantly improved. See picture on the right.
  • The GUI for Results&Data is now based on a table with checkboxes and is easy to use also for non-VisPER experts.
  • A new camera model with non-clipping zoom allows for any level of detail (especially contact models).
Post-processing
  • A great variety of arithmetic operations on result combinations is possible (e.g. difference of kinetic and strain energy density). Each single column may be used as operand. All PERMAS functions with matching number of input parameters can also be used (e.g. logarithmic function to post-process acoustic levels). Moreover, multiple viewers may be used.
  • The visualization of tensors and principal stress components is colored due to values.
Multiple Viewer
Multiple synchronized or independent viewer allow flexible insights for model checking and postprocessing.
Model completion
  • MPC definitions may, as part of the constraint variant, be modified or exchanged by contact conditions.
  • Functions are available to define distributed loads (also at nodes/surfaces). The function evaluation may be verified using the Results&Data dialog.
  • A new measurements dialog offers verification and documentation functionality.
  • Highly extended relabelling functionality to resolve naming conflicts of variants.
  • New Load History Assistant for nonlinear loading history and result definitions.
Wizards
  • New V18 designconstraints such as COG/INERTIA or buckling restriction (LDSCALFAC) are supported as well as design constraint linking.
  • Support of 3D printing restrictions in TOPO/Freeshape Wizard.
  • Improved smoothing and extended check capabilitites in the Design Wizard.

    VisPER, Overview

    VisPER (Visual PERMAS) is a GUI based model editor with python scripting for automation. It is used to complete finite element models for specific applications with PERMAS. To this end VisPER fills efficiently the gap between FE models generated by a standard mesher such as Medina and PERMAS models which are ready to run. VisPER can also be used for model verification and post-processing tasks.

    A specific user interface greatly simplifies the modeling and hence increases the efficiency of the user. VisPER directly accesses the PERMAS data structures achieving an unmatched data consistency between graphical user interface and PERMAS. In the future, new functions in PERMAS will be supported by the preprocessing earlier than today. Further concepts of the software are:

    • Wizards guiding the user through the respective modeling steps.
    • Scripting (using Python) for the creation and replication of standard procedures.
    • Batch capability, i.e. an interactive process is not necessary for the use of the graphical capabilities.
    • A high degree of configurability allows the customization including client-specific help functions.
    Functions for post-processing including animation complete the graphical capabilities.
    VisPER supports the following PERMAS analysis types:
    • Optimization for topology, sizing, (free-) shape, bead design
    • Design by simulation (Design wizard))
    • Brake squeal
    • Fluid-Structure-coupling
    • Contact analysis, including pressfit, pretension
    • Model variants (Add&Replace Wizard)
    • Sub-Structuring
    • Model validation (including the execution of PERMAS test runs)

    PCGen: PERMAS Component Generator

    PCGen is a model generator, integrated to VisPER and specialized in quasi axisymmetrical structures. Although it generates meshes, PCGen is not a mesher. It aims at creating complete F.E. models with automatic nodes and elements sets, materials, properties, loadings (for example pressure in tanks and boosters) and analysis situations. Its primary purpose is to reduce the complexity of the whole F.E. model creation process, so it generates also automatic plans and reports.

    PCGen is not an all-purpose mesher, it is a specialized tool, that aims at integrating standards for model generation, as well as providing a convenient and adapted interface for model definition. Thus, it focuses mainly on the following products:

    • Shell structures
    • Laminate
    • Flanges and stiffeners
    • Bolted flanges
    • Fluid tanks
